Another huge success for the school, even though the team was down three competitors. However after a Winston Churchillesque speech, the boys went out and outperformed themselves, allowing us to go into the final two events, the Year 9 and the Year 10/11 Relays 1 point ahead of the Maths school. An Excellent relay by the years 9’s with Jian Earle and Lloyd Milner effectively destroying the rest of the field in the first two legs meant a win, and coupled with an illegal changer over by the Maths meant that we went into the final Relay still in first place! All the boys had to do was get the baton around safely and quick! They did so, and after a tense finish to confirm no illegal change over’s we were crowned Medway Athletics Champions again. I would like to take this opportunity to thank parents for their ongoing support throughout this demanding and important period of their sons’ education. I have been impressed by how well the Year 10 students have responded to the demands of their GCSE examinations. As well as the timetabled revision classes, many staff have delivered additional support sessions at lunchtimes, after school, and during the Easter and Whitsun holidays. I was pleased to see that these were well attended by students. Students now report that they have felt well prepared for the examinations and I look forward to celebrating the results with them on August 27th. As the examinations now draw to a close, students are looking forward to a well deserved break before embarking on a programme of enrichment activities. These will include work experience, enterprise activities, community service and VIth Form taster sessions and induction, and a week at camp. Miss Tanti - Senior Academic Leader KS4 The Year 7 cricket team has begun the year very strongly, with one win and one narrow defeat. Attendance to training has been good and the enthusiasm and attitude of the players has been exemplary. Particularly good performances have been put in by John Moss, Tom Wooding, Luke Pamflett, and Aiden Mitchell, although this list is sure to grow as the season continues. Despite only playing two competitive fixtures this season all pupils who attended hockey club showed tremendous dedication and performed extremely well. A particularly good performance was put in by the team in their very first game, where they earned a 1-1 draw against an extremely strong Thomas Aveling school. Particular mentions must be given to Bradley Chilton, Stanley Orris, Aran Sabharwal and top scorer Jacob Hawkins, for their fine performances and attitude. This season, a total of 64 pupils attended rugby training, with the vast majority getting the chance to represent the school in competitive fixtures. This enthusiasm and dedication allowed CGSB to field two teams on many occasions. Both teams performed extremely well, with notable victories over Askes and Simon Langton. The squad was ably captained by Jamie Gillen, while other special mentions must be given to Jack Hartland, Reece McAllister, Joel Wakefield, Bradley Chilton, Sean Adesina, Femi Adeisna and Luke Riser for their dedication to training and consistent good performances. |
